Expert systems - a decision support approach with applications in management and finance

This is a comprehensive text introducing the fundamentals of the two major fields of decision support systems (DSS) and knowledge-based systems (KBS) and how synergistic merging of the two can result in a new generation of DSS: (KBDSS). On the whole it is a refreshing change from most articles and books written on this topic which are little more than wish lists and proposals. Instead, many examples and case studies are presented, including a software tool for building KBDSS that integrates classical DSS technology with a simple rule-based tool. Also, and very importantly, the authors have been fairly honest and clear about distinguishing between what has already been done, and what is on their wish list.
